Mountains of synthetic waste drifted into oceans, fused into sediment, dissolved into soil. Over time, the oldest plastics and petrochemical compounds began to break down—not into harmless particles, but into a novel airborne and waterborne compound: Aqene. Invisible. Persistent. Bioactive.
In 2143, researchers discovered that Aqene binds to dormant regions of human DNA—activating a long-silent genetic sequence now known as the Aq-sequence.
The media calls it The Aquarius Event.
Scientists call it induced mutation.
Elders call it consequence.
Those exposed over generations begin to change.
Veins shimmer faintly like refracted oil slicks. Pupils split into prismatic rings. Skin carries a subtle iridescence, as if light cannot decide what color it is.
